Minimotors Dualtron X Summary

Technical Specifications

Our Take: Heaviest, Most Outrageous High Performance Beast
Riding a Dualtron X is unlike any electric scooter we’ve ridden before. Lay into the throttle in the most aggressive riding mode and make sure you’re holding on tight — this machine has tons of range and power gorilla will jump out in front of you.
The Dualtron X is quite a departure from other Dualtron electric scooters we’ve reviewed. Its stem is thick and boxy. The suspension is coil-over-hydraulic, compared to the typical rubber suspension.
An optional attachable seat makes this electric scooter seem more motorcycle than a stand-up scooter.
MiniMotors Dualtron X Review
Performance Summary
Acceleration

The Dualtron X is one of the fastest electric scooter available today. The dual 6720-watt brushless DC motors make the X a land rocket on two wheels.
For starters, the acceleration is incredible. At the time we reviewed the Dualtron X, it was the fastest electric scooter we had ever tested. Other Dualtron scooters may be able to keep up with the X off the line. However, the Dualtron X absolutely crushes them when you hit 20 miles per hour, where even the most beastly scooters are left in the dust.
During our acceleration tests, the X took 2.2 seconds to reach 15 mph, 3.0 seconds to reach 20 mph, and 4.0 seconds to 25 mph.
Since our review of the X, however, we’ve tested other scooters that are faster — such as the Wolf Warrior 11 and Qiewa QPower.
Top Speed
We tested the scooter in an urban area and only had enough road to hit 40 mph. Still, the specifications should put this scooter somewhere between 50 mph and 60 mph for top speed.
Range
The Dualtron X has the most massive battery pack of any scooter we’ve tested — 2940 watt-hours. There is an additional 180 watt-hour battery pack in the stem that is used to power just lights and other accessories.
The X has a manufacturer-claimed range of 95 miles. We haven’t done a full range test on it, but expect that under real riding conditions, it should be closer to 50 miles.
Braking

The Dualtron X has massive Nutt-branded fully-hydraulic disc brakes in both the front and the rear. The rotors are ~160 mm and ventilated for maximum performance. Brake levers are solid, require little effort to activate, yet are very progressive and predictable. To put it simply: they are some of the best brakes we’ve tested on an electric scooter. However, while they are powerful — you will never accidentally brake too hard. That is the beauty of high quality, fully-hydraulic brake system.
Ride Quality
If you’ve never ridden a scooter with massive 13.0-inch diameter by 5-inch width wheels, then expect an experience that takes some getting used to.
Unlike a smaller, lighter scooter with skinnier tires, the Dualtron X has far less precise, crisp steering. As you change direction on it, you get the sensation that you’re floating/surfing a bit over the road. The scooter has so much momentum and combined with large, hefty tires; it takes a bit of time for it to respond, and you can’t make hard cuts on it.
Once you get used to this different feeling, then the scooter is a rock-solid land rocket. Under heavy acceleration and cruising at high speeds, the scooter feels very stable.
The steering damper helps keep the scooter on target as you get up to speed. Additionally, the super-wide tires have an inherent tendency to automatically stabilize the scooter, keeping it upright and going straight.
Stability is aided by another unique feature of this scooter — the adjustable steering damper. The steering damper, also called a steering stabilizer, connects the stem to part of the body through a hydraulic piston. In the embedded photo, you can see it just above the front suspension.
This motorcycle-inspired device allows you to tighten up the steering for cruising at high speeds. This is very well-suited for use in combination with the optional seat.
The dual coil-over-shocks are a departure from the classic MiniMotors rubber suspension. We didn’t measure, but they conservatively give ~2 inches of vertical travel, are supremely smooth, and will eat any bumps and potholes for breakfast.
The springs allow the overall suspension to feel very soft, and you can actually push the entire scooter down with a single foot. This enables the Dualtron X to be extremely responsive to even the smallest of bumps. However, if it only had springs, then you would risk bottoming out all the time. The additional shock that the spring is wrapped around stiffens the suspension up and dampens the response of the spring.
Basically, this unique combination of coil-over-shocks provides the best suspension we’ve seen on an electric scooter. The spring allows it to be very responsive to even the smallest of bumps, while the shock ensures that you don’t bottom out if you hit a huge pothole or take an enormous drop.
Dualtron X Features
Portability
The stem folds, but that’s it. The Dualtron X is absolutely not a portable scooter.
At 145 lbs and of similar size to a small motorcycle, you aren’t going to be throwing this thing onto a train or the back of an Uber or slipping under your desk at work.
Cockpit

The layout of the Dualtron X cockpit is somewhat similar to other Dualtron models. On the right, you have the familiar EY3 trigger throttle with LCD display. The X comes stock with a fingerprint reader for locking/unlocking the scooter.
The central console displays voltages for the dual battery packs. Above the battery voltage display is a stock kiddy bar for bolting on all those accessories that you’ll want to add to this scooter … electric scooter rally lights anyone?
On the left side, you have controls for the turn signals, electronic horn, and lights. There are also some additional buttons on the left side of the stem that can be wired up for other powered accessories that you might want to add to the scooter.
The grips on the Dualtron X aren’t fantastic (similar to those on the eMove Cruiser), so you’ll probably want to swap them out for some higher quality mountain bike ones.
Lights

This scooter has a central ultra-bright light that is good enough for night riding. There is also a ton of swag lighting, rear lights, and even turn signals. The turn signals aren’t terribly bright, and their low mounting position will make them hard to see — however, it is a good start.
For extra safety, we always recommend using additional lights. Check out our guide for staying visible while riding at night.
Tires

The tires are massive 13.0-inch by 5-inch tubeless pneumatics. The enormous 5-inch wide contact patch makes this scooter ultra-stable. It keeps it firmly planted to the ground under heavy acceleration or braking. These things are basically mini car tires and should be extraordinarily flat resistant.
Their massive size makes them roll over most obstacles you’ll encounter easily and without hesitation. Finally, their ultra-wide size contributes to the stability and unique feel of this scooter that we detail in the ride quality section.
Deck

The deck on the Dualtron X is simply huge. You have more space on this deck than any other scooter. Due to its sheer size and top speeds, many riders opt for the optional, attachable seat.
Build Quality
Like all other Dualtron and MiniMotors products, the Dualtron X has outstanding build quality.
Dualtron X: Review Conclusions

This is the largest, heaviest electric scooter we’ve ever tested. It is no longer the fastest, but it is still speedy. Its acceleration and torque are breathtaking. Launching from a standstill, the Dualtron X pulls hard off the starting line and will keep pulling past 40 mph or until you decide to tap out. The wide tires, suspension, steering damper, and sheer heft of this scooter make it very stable — even at high speeds.
This is a lot more scooter than most people will ever need, but if you’re one of the few and you’ve got a little bit of spare cash, then this is the biggest (and one of the baddest) electric scooter you can own right now.
