Now that we’ve spent time testing the bike, we’re convinced Segway is pushing the commuter category in a new direction.

On paper, those specs are solid. What makes the MYON stand out isn’t necessarily the motor or battery. Plenty of commuter bikes offer similar numbers.
What makes the MYON unique is everything surrounding those core components. Electronic shifting, GPS tracking, Apple Find My integration, over-the-air updates, smart locking, anti-theft protection, and app-based customization combine to create something that feels much closer to a connected vehicle than a traditional bicycle.
The Local Bike Shop Model Makes A Lot Of Sense
One of the most unique things about the MYON has nothing to do with the bike itself.
Unlike many direct-to-consumer eBike brands, Segway lets customers purchase online but pick up the bike fully assembled through participating local bike shops. That same shop can provide future maintenance and service support.
For riders who don’t enjoy assembling bikes, adjusting brakes, or figuring out where to throw away a mountain of cardboard, this is a surprisingly appealing approach. In fact, our entire unboxing process took just 1 minute and 47 seconds because the bike arrived essentially ready to ride.
A Feature List That Sounds More Like A Tesla Than A Bicycle
The MYON’s biggest selling point is technology. Some of the standout features include:

Performance: Smooth, Refined, And Predictable
The MYON combines a 500W rear hub motor with an impressive 1,500W peak output and a well-tuned torque sensor. Instead of the abrupt “on/off” feeling common on lower-end eBikes, power delivery feels smooth and intuitive.
Pedal harder and the bike rewards you with more assistance. Ease off and the power backs down naturally. This creates one of the most bicycle-like riding experiences we’ve tested recently.
Acceleration isn’t designed to be aggressive, but it’s more than quick enough for city riding, bike lanes, and urban commuting. The bike gets up to speed quickly without ever feeling jumpy or unpredictable.
Top Speed And Hill Climbing
The MYON is a Class 3 eBike capable of reaching 28 mph with pedal assist. What’s impressive isn’t necessarily how fast it gets there, but how composed it feels once it does.
Even at higher speeds, the MYON remains stable and confidence inspiring thanks to its 27.5-inch wheels and commuter-focused geometry.
Hill climbing performance is equally solid. Our standard test hill features a 10% grade over roughly 200 feet. While the MYON isn’t trying to compete with electric dirt bikes or ultra-high-powered adventure eBikes, it climbed confidently and maintained respectable speed throughout the test. This is clearly a commuter bike first, but it’s a strong commuter bike.
Real World Range
Range is one of the MYON’s strongest categories. The 722Wh battery provides enough capacity for serious commuting rather than short recreational rides. Based on our testing and riding impressions:
- Aggressive riding with high assist: approximately 30–35 miles
- Mixed riding and moderate assist: approximately 45–60 miles
- Conservative riding: potentially much more
Like most manufacturers, Segway’s maximum advertised range assumes ideal conditions, but the MYON still delivers genuinely useful real-world range for daily transportation.
Braking Performance
For a commuter eBike weighing nearly 73 pounds, braking performance is excellent. The hydraulic disc brake setup with 180mm rotors delivers strong stopping power while remaining easy to modulate.
Instead of feeling overly grabby or twitchy, the brakes feel predictable and confidence inspiring. That’s exactly what we want from a commuter-focused eBike.

Testing The Details Most Reviews Skip
At RiderGuide, we don’t stop with speed and range. We also tested several categories that many reviews never discuss.
Verified Weight
Segway claims 72.75 pounds. Our scale measured the bike almost exactly where Segway said it would be, which is always reassuring.
Headlight Brightness
The integrated lighting system performed well at 1000+ lux and should be more than capable for early morning or evening commutes.
Security System
The anti-theft features are among the most advanced we’ve seen on any commuter eBike. Password unlocking worked reliably, wheel locking engaged quickly, and the integrated alarm system was loud enough to draw attention and discourage tampering.
Thermal Testing
Using an infrared camera, we checked for battery and electronics hot spots after riding. Despite the Texas heat during testing, we found nothing concerning. Temperatures remained well within safe operating ranges.

Features We’re Excited To Test Next
Our MYON test bike already included an impressive technology package, but Segway also offers some optional accessories that could push the experience even further.
The first is an electronic dropper seatpost that can automatically lower the saddle at stops and raise it again when riding resumes. For commuters dealing with frequent traffic lights and stop signs, this could make daily riding noticeably more comfortable and approachable.
The second is Segway’s optional rear radar system, which can detect approaching vehicles and provide rider alerts. Similar technology has become incredibly popular in the cycling world, and we’re excited to see more eBike manufacturers adopting it.
Unfortunately, our MYON review unit didn’t include either accessory, so we couldn’t evaluate them firsthand. The good news is we’ll be testing both the radar system and electronic dropper post as part of our upcoming Segway MUXI review, where we’ll be able to spend much more time evaluating these advanced rider-assistance technologies.
Ride Quality
The MYON rides exactly how a premium commuter should. It’s comfortable, planted, stable, and easy to control. The 80mm suspension fork helps absorb rough pavement, while the larger wheels create a more traditional bicycle feel than many moped-style eBikes.
This isn’t the rowdiest bike we’ve tested. It’s not trying to be. Instead, Segway focused on refinement, and every aspect of the riding experience feels polished and intentional.
It is a hardtail, though, so there’s a limit to how much the rear can smooth out. That’s why we like Redshift suspension seatposts for really any hardtail we ride or recommend.
