Lectric & Mr. Beast Give Away 600 E-Bikes to People in Need
Lectric and Mr. Beast Ask, "What Is Affordable?"
The standards for “affordability” can vary widely from person to person. Electric bikes that cost upwards of $1000 or more might seem affordable to most people, but they are unattainable for others who could use an e-bike to improve their lives. Lectric and Mr. Beast Philantrophy teamed up recently to help potential ebike riders who couldn’t afford their own bikes.
“In just the USA, over 150 million people have limited transportation. That’s almost half the population. And in even poorer countries around the world, lack of transportation is even higher.” — Mr. Beast
Lectric was founded with the recognition that ebikes are expensive. They responded by building under-$1000 bikes that perform as well as more expensive counterparts. Lectric bikes come with high-quality, name-brand components and rugged frames and wheels.
Goodwill and Giveaways
That’s maybe no surprise, given that “kindness and shared empathy for others” are baked into the company’s mission and vision.
“We get excited when we see an opportunity to give someone access to something they wouldn’t otherwise have,” their mission states.
“In covering the e-bike market, we talk a lot about ‘affordability’ and define it as the low end of a four-figure purchase. We’re not insensitive to the reality that a $1000 purchase can strain many households.” — Electric Bike Report
To realize their mission, Lectric teamed up with Mr. Beast Philanthropy to donate $600,000 worth of e-bikes to 600 people who responded to a call for submissions on social media. The final recipients were chosen after a screening process of thousands of videos.
The thousands who applied to get a free ebike are among 150 million people who have limited access to transportation, and might struggle to afford a bike like Lectric’s XP Lite, even at its low price of $750. That’s a lot of money for low income commuters.
Mr. Beast delivered many of the Lectric ebikes by hand, beginning with Maria, a North Carolina woman who works 14 hours a day and walks several miles to and from her job. Not only did Maria get a new electric bike, but Mr. Beast Philanthropy also donated several thousand dollars to her, in person, so that she could send money to her two children and other kids in her village.
Mr. Beast Follow Up Report
“‘Lectric Ebikes time and time again steps up the plate, asks for very little, and helps us help as many people as possible,” Mr. Beast says in the follow up video above. “If there ever was a brand you should support, it’s them.” (Check out the many other Lectric and Mr. Beast Philanthropy partnerships, which have included rebuilding homes, stocking food banks, and donating bikes to other organizations.)
Lectric also sponsored the Mr. Beast Philanthropy follow-up video. Watch it on YouTube and donate to Mr. Beast Philanthropy and other charitable organizations if you want to help them help more people.
There are dozens of e-bike brands we can recommend, but few make beginner bikes that are both as reliable and affordable as Lectric’s. And we don’t know any, to date, who have given away $600,000 in electric bikes to new e-bike riders, and future loyal customers, who need a hand to reach the entry level.
