The Kukirin G4 Max, our best-value speed pick

The Kukirin G4 Max is the scooter we point people to when they ask how to go really fast without spending Wolf King money.

We rode it for our first-look test, and it has since earned the best-value speed slot in our flagship best electric scooters rankings at 4.5 out of 5. It held 50-plus mph on our top-speed run and pulled a 235 lb rider to 40 mph. This review pulls together everything we have published on the G4 Max and stacks it up against the other fast scooters we rate.

Design and build

The G4 Max runs the rugged dual-stem front end you normally see on the Kaabo Wolf King GTR and Inmotion RS. In practice, two stems mean a lot more stability at speed, and this scooter spends plenty of time at speed.

Dual stems mean real stability at 50 mph

The deck is huge: 25 inches long and 11.8 wide, two inches longer than the biggest scooter in our database, the Dualtron Storm Limited. More than 8 inches of ground clearance means you can take it onto rough ground without worrying about bottoming out.

The cockpit keeps it simple. Physical buttons on the left handle power, single or dual motor, turn signals, horn, and lights. On the right sits a thumb throttle, our favorite kind of accelerator on a scooter this quick.

Kukirin went hard on visibility. Eight LED headlights, a tail light, and ambient lighting around the body, plus a big digital display that stays readable in direct sun or full dark.

Flat out

Speed and acceleration

The G4 Max pairs dual 1600W motors with three speed modes that top out at 23, 43, and 53 mph. That 53 mph rating is not marketing fluff.

On our first ride it hit 40 mph with a 235 lb rider aboard. On the top-speed run for our flagship roundup it held 50-plus mph. Lighter riders on flat ground will get closest to the 53 mph ceiling.

Street and dirt

Ride quality and suspension

Dual hydraulic suspension soaks up potholes and trail chatter, and 12 inch off-road tires carry it from city streets to beat-up paths without drama. That mix makes the G4 Max feel like two scooters in one: a long-range commuter on weekdays, an off-road toy on weekends.

Stopping power

Brakes

Four-piston NUTT hydraulic brakes handle stopping, and that is serious hardware at this price. Braking is precise and easy to modulate, whether you are slowing for pedestrians or grabbing a handful for a surprise pothole.

Going the distance

Battery, range and charging

The battery is the quiet star here: a 60V 35.2Ah pack good for 2,112 watt-hours. Kugoo claims up to 59 miles. We typically see about 60% of manufacturer estimates in real riding, which puts a realistic number around 35 miles. For a scooter this fast, that is still a healthy figure.

The pack is removable, so you can charge it off the scooter or carry a spare and double your range. Dual charging ports take two 67.2V/5A chargers at once and cut a full charge to about 3 to 4 hours.

One caveat: the G4 Max is rated for riders up to 330 lb, but a heavier load pulls range down. Manufacturer estimates assume ideal conditions and a light rider.

The field

How it compares

Here is how the G4 Max lines up against the other fast scooters in our flagship rankings.

Scooter Price RG rating
Kukirin G4 Max ~$2,300 4.5 / 5
Segway GT3 Pro $2,799 4.5 / 5
Solar Hyperion RST $3,199 4.7 / 5
Dualtron X Limited $5,995 4.5 / 5

The value math is simple. The G4 Max sells for around $2,300 against a $3,600 list price. Its closest rivals, the Kaabo Wolf King GT and Teewing Mars XTR, both run over $3,000 with very similar specs. Inside our own lineup, the Segway GT3 Pro buys longer range for $500 more, and the Solar Hyperion RST is faster for nearly a grand more. On speed per dollar, the G4 Max wins.

The balance sheet

Pros and cons

Pros
  • Fast for the money. Held 50-plus mph on our top-speed run, rated for 53.
  • Big 2,112Wh battery, removable and swappable, with up to 59 miles of claimed range.
  • Dual-stem front end and dual hydraulic suspension keep it planted at speed.
  • Four-piston NUTT hydraulic brakes, hardware from pricier scooters.
  • Huge footprint. 25 by 11.8 inch deck and more than 8 inches of ground clearance.
Cons
  • The 59 mile range claim is optimistic. Plan on roughly 60% in real riding.
  • Big, heavy off-road machine, not a portable last-mile commuter.
  • 53 mph is expert territory. Beginners should start slower.

Decision guide

Who should buy the Kukirin G4 Max?

Buy it if you want
  • The most speed and hardware per dollar in the fast-scooter class
  • One scooter for weekday commutes and weekend trails
  • A removable battery you can swap or charge off the scooter
  • A build that handles bigger riders, rated to 330 lb
Skip it if you want
  • A light scooter you can fold up and carry upstairs
  • Your first electric scooter (start slower, then graduate)
  • Bike-lane cruising at 20 mph, where cheaper picks make more sense

Final word

RiderGuide verdict

The G4 Max carries a 4.5 out of 5 from our flagship rankings, which works out to a 90 on the RG Score scale.

The missing half point comes down to the optimistic range claim and the sheer size of the thing. Size is a feature for trail riders and a bug for anyone hauling it up a flight of stairs.

Value keeps it on our list. Nothing else we rate offers 50-plus mph, a 2,112Wh removable battery, dual hydraulic suspension, and four-piston hydraulic brakes at this price. The scooters that beat it on any single number cost hundreds or thousands more.

Bottom line: hyper-scooter speed and off-road hardware without hyper-scooter money.
