The Discover 2: A Velotric Ebike with Game-Changing Upgrades
Mitchell Anderson
Mitchell has been fascinated by electric scooters since 2019. He began sharing his enthusiasm on his YouTube channel, “RK9 Rides,” in 2020. He joined Rider Guide in 2023, and between the two channels, he spends seven days a week riding, testing, and writing about electric scooters. He has tested dozens of models from dozens of brands and is always on the lookout for the newest and greatest scooters. His current favorite models are the Nami Klima and the NIU KQi3 Max.
Velotric has polished all the rough edges of the Discover 1 and turned the Discover 2 into potentially the best ebike you can buy for the price.
Velotric Discover 2 — $1,699
Velotric is busting ebike myths all over the place these days, making premium, well-built, stylish electric bikes in a competitive market, showing that electric bikes don’t have to cost more than acoustic bikes for the same level of quality.
What this company’s high-quality-low-prices strategy will do to their competitors is anyone’s guess, but it could make Velotric very successful in the ebike market. They deserve it with original designs like the Velotric T1 road bike and the Discover 1 commuter, and the Discover 2 is even better than its predecessor.

Fifteen Riding Modes, a Torque Sensor, and 750 Watts of Power
The first set of differences you’ll notice right away on the Discover 2 are easy to see: a better integrated battery and a new, crystal clear, wide display with some sleek new buttons.
Take a closer look and you’ll see that this bike offers a lot more functionality than its predecessor, with fifteen riding modes instead of three.
Three levels of assistance – Eco, Trail, and Boost – have five riding modes each. You can see me put each mode through its paces in our video review, where I test the bike on- and off-road and show you how well it climbs hills.
One of the Best Electric Bikes for the Price
Now the Discover commuter bike gets a serious upgrade, and we were blown away by what Velotric has done to bring this bike from great to really great for a regular price of $1,699.
You can get another $60 off with our discount code, RIDERGUIDE60, and $200 off if you buy two ebikes from Velotric.
What I found in riding this bike is that no matter your size, experience, or riding capabilities, you can dial in exactly the amount of assistance you need based on what kind of riding you’re doing and how fast you’re going.
That’s not only because of the Discover 2’s 15 different modes, but also because of its torque sensor, a rarity at this price point, and 750-Watt motor, which can pretty much handle any kind of terrain.
I personally like torque sensor ebikes much better than cadence sensors. A torque sensor allows you to engage with the bike rather than spinning in place. It works with you as you pedal and adds a little bit of a workout in higher modes as you push against it.
It’s not a lot of resistance, but you feel like you’re in control of the speed instead of being pushed forward. The torque sensor on the Discover responds very smoothly with an increase in power, then backs off slowly when you slow down.
Unlike the Discover 1, this bike can easily hit Class-3 top speeds of 28 mph, but it also functions in lower riding modes as a Class-1 or Class-2 ebike.
It really is a do-anything bike, and you can ride as aggressively, or not, as you want for miles.
A Do-It-All Bike: The Discover 2’s Ultimate Flexibility
There’s a lot more to love about the Discover 2’s upgrades. An ergonomic thumb throttle and turn signals, which you don’t see very often on ebikes, add to the cockpit’s new design and safety features. The front fork isn’t overly plush and won’t bottom out on big bumps, which is great for off-road riding.
The app also looks really cool, and it connects with Apple Find My and Apple Health. I didn’t get a chance to use the app myself, but I didn’t need it because I could easily change all the settings with the large display.
The bike is UL Certified, so it meets rigorous safety standards. The battery has a water resistance rating of IPX7, making the battery virtually waterproof, according to Velotric. The bike itself is very highly rated as well at IPX6.
UL Certification is actually a very big deal when it comes to electric bikes and scooters these days. New York City now requires all ebikes to be UL Certified because these bikes have been tested for fire safety, where non-certified bikes may not be.
This ebike is flexible enough for anyone to ride, whether they use it for urban commuting, leisurely bike path rides on weekends, or gravel and trail riding through mountains.
The Discover 2’s upgrades are truly game-changing. This is a premium quality commuter bike for the urban or suburban nomad at a price that is affordable for everyone.
The bike comes in two sizes, and with its hydraulic brakes, 8-speed Shimano drivetrain, adjustable handlebars and 440-lb capacity, virtually anyone can ride the Discover 2 comfortably.
