First Impressions: Apollo Explore 2.0 Sets a New Standard for Affordable Performance Scooters

Summary

Apollo has officially unveiled the Apollo Explore 2.0, and as someone who’s tested more than 200 electric scooters, this one immediately caught my eye. The original Explore built a reputation for balancing power and comfort, but over time, it fell behind. The new Explore 2.0 keeps the same mission — to make everyday rides feel extraordinary — but completely reimagines the package. With a 1600W peak motor, 648Wh battery, and a top speed of 25 mph (40 km/h), it’s positioned as a true “affordable performance scooter,” a category that’s been missing from the market. At $799–$899 USD, it offers more power, range, and capability than most competitors in this price range.

What stands out most from my first look is the attention to comfort and safety, two areas where budget scooters usually compromise. The triple spring suspension and 10-inch self-healing tubeless tires suggest a ride smooth enough for daily commutes and weekend trips alike, while integrated features like bright headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and even under-deck glow show Apollo isn’t cutting corners on visibility. Add to that a sleek black-and-orange design and low-maintenance front drum plus regenerative brakes, and the Explore 2.0 looks ready to redefine what riders can expect under $1,000. My first impression: this could easily become one of the most important scooters of 2025.
