Mitchell has been fascinated by electric scooters since 2019. He began sharing his enthusiasm on his YouTube channel, “RK9 Rides,” in 2020. He joined Rider Guide in 2023, and between the two channels, he spends seven days a week riding, testing, and writing about electric scooters. He has tested dozens of models from dozens of brands and is always on the lookout for the newest and greatest scooters. His current favorite models are the Nami Klima and the NIU KQi3 Max.

Denago makes rugged ebikes for on and off-road riding. I reviewed their Hunting 1 e-mtb back in March and was very impressed with its performance, capability, and range.

Denago Fat Tire 2 Step-Thru Ebike – $1799

The Denago Fat Tire 2 Step-Thru ebike is built for a different ridership than their Hunting 1, but it retains the same high level of quality and performance for light off-road duty, and like the Hunting 1, its enormous tires do a lot of work when it comes to traction, stability, and overall ride quality.

The Fat Tire 2 is a Class 3 ebike with a 750W rear hub motor that gives you up to 28 mph in the top pedal assist mode and a max speed of 20 mph with the throttle. In addition to its power specs, it’s also got Kenda 26 x 4” tires with added puncture protection, hydraulic disc brakes, a 960Wh LG battery for up to 78 miles of range, and a large full-color Kimmitt display.

Who is This eBike For?

This is a standard fat tire ebike that is built very well and perfect for light offroad use, including camping or RVing. The battery life is excellent for long days on the trail, and it’s got hydraulic disc brakes for maximum stopping power.

The bike’s power specs, handling, suspension, and other features, as well as its maximum weight limit of 264 pounds make it a good choice for larger riders, too.

Pros

  • Comfort and convenience – From its easy step-thru design to its electric assist feature, every aspect of the Denago Fat Tire 2 Step-Thru eBike is tailored to provide you with a comfortable riding experience
  • Reliable performance and durability – With its high-quality component, excellent build quality, UL Certification, and real-world range testing, you can count on this bike to last.

Cons

  • Higher price point than some similarly spec’d models – You can find similar specs for less, but not at the same high level of quality at the Denago Fat Tire 2

Comfort, Convenience, and Easy Step-Thru Design

post-image-1 Effortlessly mount and dismount with the easy step-thru design of the Denago Fat Tire 2 Step-Thru eBike.

This design makes it a breeze to hop on and off the eBike, so it’s a good fit for riders of different ages and abilities. No more struggling to swing your leg over a high top tube or risking losing your balance when you get off the bike.

An included rear rack and fenders make this bike extra convenient for carrying groceries, extra clothing, or other items you need on your commute, and included fenders keep you clean and dry. A Zoom spring suspension front fork gives you all the travel you need on a bike like this, and it does a great job of evening out the ride.

As the name clearly states, however, it’s the tires that do a lot of the work on this bike, making the ride feel effortless over all kinds of terrain.

Power, Long Range, and Pedaling Efficiency

The Fat Tire 2 Step-Thru has plenty of power and stability for the long haul and for tackling most kinds of terrain you’ll run into in light off-roading situations. It’s not designed for serious mountain biking, but it performs very well in any other kind of trail riding situation.

In addition to our testing, Denago also conducts real-world range tests in Carrollton, Texas, where the company is based. They actually break down the range specifics of each pedal assist mode. You’ll get up to 78 miles in mode 1, 60 miles in mode 2, and so on (see the full breakdown on their site).

Because the Denago Fat Tire 2 uses a torque sensor instead of a cadence sensor, it has better pedaling efficiency, as well as what many people describe as a more natural feel when pedaling. While you can always use the throttle when your legs wear out, a torque sensor will give you a better workout on an eBike, in our opinion.
