Two New Segway Ebikes Are On the Way for 2025

Segway's Super Into Ebikes Now
There’s no question Segway has dominated the electric scooter space for years now, with models priced for every rider, from under $500 budget scooters, to one of the best $1000 commuters ever made, to the legendary Segway GT2, the dual motor performance scooter that changed the game. Now, they’re poised to make their way into an even more crowded EV scene: Segway debuted two new ebikes at CES this year, the Segway Xyber and Segway Xafari, and they look like they might make other ebike manufactuers a little nervous next year.

The Segway Xafari
The Xafari, as the name suggests, is an ebike built for exploring. It’s got a very sleek but rugged look incorporating the X design we’ve seen in the most recent scooter release from Segway, the Segway Ninebot ZT3 Pro.
Like that scooter, these bikes are built for off-road travel, with big, knobby tires and suspension. We don’t have the full specs yet, but we know the Xafari should travel a maximum range of 88 miles and the Xyber should get a max range of 100 miles in a dual battery configuration.

The Segway Xyber
The Xyber is the more motorcycle-looking of the two ebikes – in fact, it would be impossible to tell the Xyber from an e-moto except for its pedals. As with other popular moped-style ebikes, we expect those pedals won’t get much use.
The Segway Xyber looks like a throttle-driven road & trail ripper that just squeaks up to the line of what you can call an electric bike. Then again, the very first motorcycles were just bicycles with motors. Electric motorcycles seem to be evolving the same way, which means we’ll probably see a Segway e-moto someday soon.

New Form Factor = New Tech & Sales Strategy
Segway ebikes will come equipped with a new “Segway Intelligent Ride System,” proprietary tech that drives the company’s new vehicles. “In many ways, we’re a technology company first,” says Nick Howe, head of Segway’s ebike division. “Product conversations start with discussions of ‘tech stacks’ and expand from there. We are using our technology to create a more seamless user experience much like what has been done with automobiles.”
To find out exactly what that means, you’ll soon be able to visit a licensed Segway ebike dealer near you. Segway has also announced a new strategy for sales, one Howe brings from his time with traditional bike companies Orbea and Trek. Segway intends to build a network of dealers around the U.S., composed of traditional local bike shops, specifically ebike-focused stores, and motorcycle, powersports, and outdoor gear dealers.

“Segway recognized that the bike industry is a different animal,” says Howe. That may be so, but they seem poised already to tap into the market with two ebikes that deliver just what people want – long ranges, sleek designs, well-integrated technology, and the ability to take riders over just about any kind of terrain.
