The Lectric XPress: An All-Road Ebike for Half the Price
Lectric ebikes are the best-selling electric bike brand in the U.S. for good reason – they are affordable ebikes that are also reliable, fun to ride, and specced with high-quality components from well-known manufacturers like Shimano.
Beloved by commuters, leisure riders, and RVers, Lectrics are becoming the go-to direct-to-consumer ebike brand. But it’s not just the pedigree of Lectric’s parts that attracts most riders.
The company has also perfected the everyperson’s ebike, since their 2018 founding in Phoenix, Arizona by two cyclists whose father gave them their initial funding to “design an affordable e-bike that your mother and I can ride.”
The challenge has recently resulted in some ecool high-tech solutions. We’ve been impressed, for example, with the new, $1,999 Lectric One, a compact electric bike with a smart, automatic drivetrain that does all the shifting for you and could easily spoil any other ebike you ride.
The Lectric XP Lite, an intuitively designed folding ebike for under $800 that you can fit in the trunk of your car or the corner of your office.
While most of Lectric's commuter bikes use 20" wheels to keep weight, size, and costs down, the new $1000 Lectric XPress, is a full-size, non-folding bike designed for the road. Its 27.5" wheels are the same standard you'll find on many mountain and gravel bikes
Lectric XPress Specs
The Lectric XPress can operate as a Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 ebike, with max speed of up to 28 mph. The ebike comes in a step-thru or step-over frame, and the base model comes with a 500W hub motor and 499W battery and goes for $999. You can step up to a larger 750W motor and 672W battery for another $299. Even at that price, you’re still paying half what you might for these specs on another brand.
Whatever build you choose, the bike comes with a TC-Eighty front fork with 80mm of travel – plenty of shock absorption for rough roads, curbs, driveway lips, and even light trail riding, but not enough for serious off-roading.
The battery is UL2271 Certified, a rigorous standard that means it has been tested for overheating risk and fire safety in a wide range of conditions.
